The Greatest of All Time can now add Most Expensive of All Time to his resume.
In an auction that ended on Monday, a rookie card of six-time Super Bowl winner Tom Brady sold for $400,100, the highest auction price in history for a football card.
Only 100 of the 2000 Playoff Contenders Championship Ticket collection cards were ever produced, with only two having a grade of nine or higher from Beckett Grading Services.
PWCC Marketplace, which heralds itself as “the largest, most complete trading card marketplace in the world,” coordinated the sale with eBay.
“This sale was record-setting but also largely predicted,” PWCC Marketplace CEO Brett Huigens said in a statement. “This auction event featured the finest football card we’ve brokered in our 20-year history and achieved the highest-ever hammer price for a football card. We were honored to present this asset to the public and are delighted for the new owner.”
